We dined here for the second time and it was a lovely experience! It's so refreshing to find a spot where the business owners care about their customers (and remember their regulars), and also make quality food with concern for cleanliness and hygiene too (the restaurant has a letter grade A).
Food:
-Beef noodle soup, hubs devoured it and it was served piping hot with lots of beef with collagen (ya don't need no Peptides Collagen supplement for $50 if you dine here)
-Lions heads with cabbage and rice, this hit the spot and sister-in-law was right, delicious! I haven't found this dish anywhere else and I'm so thankful I found it here tonight. It's one of my very faves!
& I randomly stumbled across an act of kindness by the manager who seems to regularly service customers of all types (even when they can't always fully pay for their meals). I know she likely wouldn't want me sharing this but it was the best part of my day witnessing this. Knowing that if I were ever down and out one day, that people like her still exist helping others out without saying a word or bragging about it for that matter. Truly beautiful! Peter's Place is the TOMs, Charity Cause box, Charity Water of Chinese restaurants.
We will definitely be returning, or as the hubs remarked, "when we move to the South Bay area, I'll be frequenting this place for the Taiwanese breakfast!" -

Food: I ordered the udon and it wasn't bad it tasted good when the food wasn't burnt. The only reason for it being burnt was because it was on a hot plate. I also ordered the peach slush with boba. It was very tasty and has a very flavorful taste.
Surroundings: It isn't bad except for the trash and boxes everywhere. It looks somewhat like a pigsty.
People: The waiter was very fast paced and pushy. The or there workers were also yelling and running all around the restaurant.
Give it a try if you are looking for Taiwanese food. -

OK, so this place is not great on the eyes, but who cares, mom & pop shops are the best for authentic food! Growing up in Taiwan, we never expected much for customer service from a hole-in-the-wall, but the people here are actually very nice every time I've been here. Their food is very tasty also. I've had the pork lunch plates (with yummy boba) and the beef stew noodles, both of which were very delicious and flavorful.

More than half-decent Taiwanese food in the South Bay. Given the sizable Taiwanese population here I'm surprise there aren't more Taiwanese restaurants (Ju Ju Shine on Carson & Western just closed.) Nice hard-working people running the place but can get frazzled and brusque when busy. Come here for their house staples -- egg pancake, stuffed rice rolls (Saturday 9-11am only), stewed pork rice and pig's feet rice bento boxes. 'Drunken chicken' for $8.99 is not very fresh, however. Stick to the authentic-sounding Taiwanese items and you'll do fine. Avoid the Americanized-Chinese things like beef broccoli, kung pao anything, etc. at all cost.

Alana said that she had never been to this Chinese restaurant in all of her years living in Torrance...
Maybe there was a reason?
We had driven past Peter's Place and I was curious. I suggested that we check it out. It's kind of a hole-in-the-wall ambiance with free parking and an adequate restroom.
Service was amusing. I'm not sure if there was a language barrier. I do not speak any Chinese, so I ordered in English. There were two women taking orders and speaking with customers. They both interacted with us. The older one said that she remembers everyone and knew that we were "new". She remembered the customers behind us even though they hadn't returned for maybe ten years...ok...
I thought that I was entering a Chinese restaurant, but I wasn't able to sit at any table because the tables were full of stuff. I got a table on the "boba drink side" of the restaurant. It seems like there are two businesses at the same place.
We wanted the Spring Roll and Fortune Cookie that came with the "complete meal" so Alana ordered the Cashew chicken and I got the Shrimp broccoli. My broccoli was fine. The shrimps were made challenging by the starchy (undercooked?) gravy. Alana's lunch tasted better than mine. Both of us agreed that the spring roll was on the oily and bland side.
We also ordered smoothies. I had the Lychee flavor and Alana got the taro smoothie. These drinks were good! We needed them to make the $20 minimum for credit card use. We also tried the colorful Hawaiian Shave Ice - it was ok... just know that the ice isn't finely shaved.
I would return for the beverages. Maybe we didn't order the right items? I would try something else - not the "complete meal". And I would remember earlier to ask for the Fortune Cookie!
Note: the $10 special Rice Plates are cash only. The customers behind us had to leave to go to the ATM even though their bill totalled $20.
